Finished Poster for 'Equinox' - Analysis
Taking inspiration from posters for 'Longlegs' and 'Enys Men', both films that could be categorised as folk horror movies, I have kept the design relatively simple, using a single image from the film, but one which incorporates iconography from the genre. I have also included reviews for the film, something I noticed on many posters for folk horror films, including those for 'Enys Men', a marketing tactic I felt was necessary considering the film's low budget, lack of A-list stars and the genre's niche appeal.
I deliberately chose a picture on the basis of space in the image's composition where I could place the copy. I then cropped out the space above the actor's head (to remove the building and to reinforce the theme of nature) and the space to the left of the urn. This left the necessary space to include the copy.
Alongside including reviews, I have included the name of the film as the largest copy on the poster, the film's tagline (to maintain branding consistency), a billing block with production company logos, a social media hashtag, the film's release date and references to previous films by the same director.
